If you think zoos are bad then you cant really like animal
When I was a little kid I used to visit London Zoo with my parents every time I went down to London and I absolutely loved it but over the years I visited zoos all over the world such as France, Australia and Holland and some of the things I saw really upset me.
I visited a zoo in France which was horrible and was basically just a museum of living animals which were kept in cramped cages with concrete floors and an environment which was nothing like the kind that they would be found in the wild. This was when I started to question whether or not zoos are a good idea.
In my personal opinion I think that zoos are both good ideas but do have some negative affects too.
I must say that all the zoos that I have visited in the U.K. are very good indeed and place the animals in an environment which is as near to their natural environment as possible and also give then plenty of room in which to move around and almost always stimulate the animals by hiding there food or by giving them toys to play with.
The good things about British zoos is the fact that they aren’t set up for the amusement of the public but are actually set up for the protection of species and it cant be denied that zoos have played an extremely important role in keeping some of the worlds most endangered animals on the planet, such as the rhinos, pandas, gorillas and many more rare and exotic animals.
Zoos such as London zoo are also twinned with other zoos which is great because it means that they can swap animals for breeding which enables the gene pool of the species to be as varied as possible and this enables the survival of more animals and means that more can be released in their home country.
As you can probably tell I am in favour of most zoos in the UK but I am a little worried with zoos in Europe as they don’t seem to understand the importance of conservation and see zoos as more of a theme park and treat their animals as th ough they are there for people to see rather than being there to repopulate the planet with endangered animals.
In my opinion zoos are necessary and it would be inhumane of us not to try and save animals and people who think zoos are cruel are basically cruel themselves because they don’t want the animals to survive extinction |
